I'm not even certain what unit vectors for theta and phi are even supposed to mean Scalar multiplication at least is simple. When you want to do something like a dot product or vector addition, you probably want to convert to cartesian coordinates first. The addition of vectors is not simply addition of their components. Spherical coordinates may not be a very convenient basis for vector addition. They have a different representation in spherical coordinates, but you could express any vector in spherical coordinates as a linear combination of those basis vectors, just as you should for a basis. The standard cartesian basis vectors (or any others) are still a basis. Just to pile on a little □ I know you've got the basic idea explained to you but here's a little more food for thought.
